President Trump announced his one requirement for countries to receive a lower tariff rate in a Truth Social post.

New trading tool for QQQ bulls“I WILL ONLY LOWER TARIFFS IF A COUNTRY AGREES TO OPEN ITS MARKET,” said Trump on Wednesday. “IF NOT, MUCH HIGHER TARIFFS!” He added that both Japan and Indonesia committed to opening their markets through the trade deals finalized yesterday. Japanese exports to the U.S. will face a 15% tariff, while Indonesian exports will be taxed at 19%.

It’s not clear if “open markets” means zero trade barriers, 0% tariffs, or both. In a separate post, Trump said, “Another great power of Tariffs. Without them, it would be impossible to get countries to OPEN UP!!! ALWAYS, ZERO TARIFFS TO AMERICA!!!”
