California Governor Gavin Newsom has warned that President Trump is serious about staying in his position for a third term, despite constitutional ineligibility that limits a president to two terms.

“You think he’s joking about 2028?” questioned Newsom at a summit hosted by Politico, adding that Trump would be hesitant to step down following a $200 million ballroom renovation at the White House. “You think when he brings foreign leaders to the Oval Office and he goes to the White House store … and he shows them the 2028 hats that he’s not being serious?”
Trump Holds 3% Odds in 2028 Election as Vance Tops the Charts
Earlier this month, Trump dispelled rumors by saying that he would “probably not” run for a third presidential term in 2028 despite the “best poll numbers I’ve ever had.” At the same time, Trump still has a 3% chance of winning the next election and is tied with Kamala Harris, according to prediction platform Polymarket.
Vice President J.D. Vance leads the pack with a 28% chance, followed by Newsom at 19% and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at 9%.
