Trump Approval Rating at Term-Low amid Unease over Russia Ties

President Trump’s approval rating is at a term-low of 40%, remaining unchanged from late July, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll that ended on Monday. 54% of the respondents, which include about 20% of Republicans, said they believed Trump was too closely aligned with Russia. That follows last week’s summit between the two leaders in Anchorage, Alaska, where the pair discussed a potential resolution to the Russia-Ukraine war. At the meeting, Trump agreed with Putin that Ukraine should cede land in order to end the war.

Trump Sees Modest Support on Crime, Immigration Amid Economic Worries

Meanwhile, 42% of respondents approved of Trump’s performance on crime, while 43% supported his immigration policy efforts. Earlier this month, Trump announced a federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s police force after a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) employee was assaulted on the streets.

Trump’s tough stance on immigration could also contribute to slowing job growth, according to Goldman Sachs. “Our estimate of trend job growth is now clearly below even that low bar at 30k per month,” wrote Goldman analysts in a note to clients.
