The White House is poised to announce on Friday the winner of its contest to build the next-generation fighter jet, and will choose between Lockheed Martin (LMT) and Boeing (BA), Bloomberg’s Anthony Capaccio and Julie Johnsson report. The announcement will be made nearly two years after the Air Force issued a formal request for proposals for the Next Generation Air Dominance manned fighter, with plans to spend up to $16B on research and development through 2028. The new fighter jet is expected to enter service in the 2030s, replacing the F-22 Raptor, and will be an air-to-air fighter intended to fly in tandem with drones being developed in a separate program.
