WhatsApp use is growing in U.S., WSJ reports

Meta’s (META) WhatsApp is the world’s default messaging platform, with 3B users across the globe, but adoption in the U.S. has been slow, Nicole Nguyen of The Wall Street Journal reports. Most Americans use Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone and iMessage, preferring to use WhatsApp for communications abroad. In 2020, Apple’s internal research showed only 16% of U.S. iPhone users were on WhatsApp. This may be changing, as recent years show an acceleration in WhatsApp’s U.S. growth. Monthly active iOS users were up 39% last quarter compared to 2020.
