Private equity firm Vista Equity Partners is leading a new funding round of over $350M in artificial intelligence chip startup SambaNova Systems, with Intel (INTC) also participating, according to a Reuters report by Milana Vinn and Krystal Hu. The funding for the Nvidia (NVDA) competitor comes after acquisition talks between SambaNova and Intel stalled and marks a rare departure from Vista’s traditional focus on enterprise software. SambaNova, which was valued at $5B in a 2021 funding round, is seeking the new capital to meet growing demand for inference chips used in AI applications.
