The U.S. Postal Service intends to impose an 8% surcharge on packages in response to rising fuel prices, the Wall Street Journal’s Esther Fung reports, citing two people familiar with the matter. The surcharge marks the first time the service has imposed such a fee to cover rising fuel costs, the author says, noting that the surcharge will be applied to packages but not mail. Publicly traded companies in package delivery include FedEx (FDX) and UPS (UPS).
