Six months to the day after filing for union certification, video game workers at Ubisoft Halifax (UBSFY) have been certified to join the CWA Canada union. The Nova Scotia Labour Board granted certification today after 74% of staff wall-to-wall voted Yes. The new unit includes about 60 producers, programmers, designers, artists, researchers and development testers. They are joining CWA Canada Local 30111, which includes nearly 120 game workers at Bethesda Game Studios (MSFT) in Montreal, and staff at the Montreal Gazette newspaper. “In an era marked by industry-wide uncertainty, studio closures, layoffs, and increasing instability, we want to make clear our commitment to one another and to our craft,” the workers said in a mission statement.
