The U.S. Commerce Department previously gave Samsung (SSNLF) and SK Hynix (HXSCL) exemptions to restrictions created in 2022 related to the sale of U.S. semiconductor equipment to China, but the companies will now need to obtain licenses to purchase the equipment for China, Karen Freifeld of Reuters reports, citing the Federal Register.
