TikTok will be releasing age-detection technology across Europe as the platform faces pressure to better identify and remove accounts owned by children under 13, Supantha Mukherjee of Reuters reports, citing comments made by the company. The release of this system follows a year-long pilot in Europe and will analyze profile information, posted videos, and behavioral signs to predict if the account is underage. Moderators will review any account flagged by the technology rather than automatically banned, TikTok told Reuters. Oracle (ORCL), Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX will collectively own 45% of the U.S. entity under a deal set to close on January 22, while nearly a third of the company will be held by affiliates of current ByteDance investors, and almost 20% will be retained by ByteDance. Publicly traded companies in the social media space include Meta Platforms (META), Pinterest (PINS), Reddit (RDDT) and Snap (SNAP).
