TikTok plans to launch a standalone app for U.S. users that would operate on a separate algorithm and data system from its global app, Reuters’ Krystal Hu reports. According to people familiar with the matter, the effort could lay the groundwork for a potential sale orchestrated by U.S. President Donald Trump. The new U.S.-only app is designed to function independently, similar to Douyin, the version of TikTok available exclusively in mainland China. Publicly traded companies in the space include Meta Platforms (META), Pinterest (PINS), Reddit (RDDT) and Snap (SNAP).
