Netflix (NFLX) and YouTube (GOOGL) have increasingly locked in a battle for control over the TV, a rivalry Netflix’s executives can no longer deny, John Koblin of The New York Times reports. The rivalry signals the streaming wars have entered a new phase. Previously, increasing subscriber numbers to their streaming services was the ultimate goal, but now those companies are trying to increase the amount of time viewers spend on their service.
