Stellantis (STLA) is discussing options for building electric vehicles in Canada with its Chinese partner, Zhejiang Leapmotor Technology Co., people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg’s Brian Platt and Gabrielle Coppola. The talks are in an early stage, said the sources. Should both companies proceed, it would be the first significant Chinese auto investment in Canada since Prime Minister Mark Carney struck a deal with President Xi Jinping in January to lower tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles, the authors note.
