Southwest (LUV) Airlines is ending its long-standing ‘Customer of Size’ policy which enabled plus-size travelers to secure extra seating without up-front costs. Beginning January 27, passengers who cannot fit comfortably within one seat will be required to purchase an additional seat in advance, with refunds only granted under stricter conditions. Under the new policy, the company said, “We will refund an extra seat purchased provided the following conditions apply: The flight must depart with at least one open seat. Both seats should be purchased in the same fare class. The refund request must be made within 90 days of your date of travel.”
