U.S. senators Josh Hawley and Richard Blumenthal have sent a letter to the heads of the FTC and SEC to investigate Meta Platforms (META) following a report on the company’s revenue from ads on Facebook and Instagram that promote scams and banned goods, Reuters’ Jeff Horwitz reports. “The FTC and SEC should immediately open investigations and, if the reporting is accurate, pursue vigorous enforcement action where appropriate” to force the social media giant to disgorge profits, pay fines, and agree to stop running such ads, the senators wrote in the letter.
