Federal safety regulators are intensifying scrutiny of Tesla’s (TSLA) Full Self-Driving system over concerns about its performance in poor roadway conditions, The Wall Street Journal’s Ryan Felton reports. The NHTSA cited multiple crashes, including a fatality, where the system failed to alert drivers during low-visibility events like sun glare, fog, or dust, with the probe-which began in 2024-focused on whether the system can safely respond in such scenarios. The probe is being escalated into an “engineering analysis,” a more thorough examination of a potential safety defect that could result in a recall campaign or other enforcement action, Felton writes.
