Petrobras (PBR) received a license from the State Secretariat for the Environment of Amapa to operate the Wildlife Care and Rehabilitation Unit located in the municipality of Oiapoque, Amapa. The facility functions as a type of hospital for wildlife and has an outpatient clinic, stabilization rooms, care, a surgical center and other spaces dedicated to caring for birds, marine mammals, turtles, dolphins and manatees. The construction of the wildlife unit in Oiapoque is part of the environmental licensing process for the drilling project that Petrobras intends to begin in the FZA-M-59 block, located in deep waters of Amapa, more than 540 km from the mouth of the Amazon River, on the Brazilian Equatorial Margin. With the drilling, Petrobras intends to investigate the existence of oil off the coast of the state. To begin operations at Oiapoque, an inspection by Ibama is still required. Petrobras informed the regulatory agency that the facility will be available for inspection starting next Monday, April 7th.
