Last spring, Skydance (PSKY) Chief Executive David Ellison and his top executive Jeff Shell told a group of former MTV executives that they realized the network was in bad shape and wondered if it could become a “music tastemaker” again, Jessica Toonkel of The Wall Street Journal reports. The CEO received calls from people with ideas for the cable network as well as some interested in partnering with MTV, including music executive Irving Azoff, Universal Music Group (UMGNF) CEO Lucian Grainge, and some artists, people familiar with the matter told the Journal.
