Paramount (PARAA) (PARA) Global chair and controlling shareholder Shari Redstone has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer and underwent surgery last month, James B. Stewart, Michael M. Grynbaum, and Benjamin Mullin of The New York Times report. “Shari Redstone was diagnosed with thyroid cancer earlier this spring,” said Molly Morse, a spokeswoman for Redstone. Redstone says she sought medical attention about two months ago after experiencing fatigue and other symptoms, and while surgeons removed her thyroid gland, they were unable to remove all of the cancer cells because they had spread to her vocal cords. She continues to be treated with radiation, and “she and her family are grateful that her prognosis is excellent,” Morse said. “While it has been a challenging period, she is maintaining all professional and philanthropic activities throughout her treatment, which is ongoing.” Redstone was recently involved in the selection of three new Paramount board members, while Paramount is negotiating to settle an election-interference lawsuit by President Trump against CBS News and is awaiting federal approval of an $8B merger with Skydance Media.
