Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI has agreed to rent additional capacity from Oracle (ORCL) totaling about 4.5 gigawatts of data center power in the U.S. as part of its Stargate initiative, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg’s Brody Ford and Rachel Metz. Oracle will develop multiple data centers across the U.S. with partners and sites in states including Texas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Wyoming New Mexico, Georgia, Ohio and Pennsylvania are under consideration, in addition to expanding the power capacity of the company’s Abilene, Texas site, according to the sources.
