The NOAA has finalized a rule easing applications for deep-sea mining, potentially accelerating the approval process for companies, The New York Times’ Sachi Kitajima Mulkey reports. Shortly after, The Metals Company (TMC) filed an expanded application that more than doubled its targeted mining area, welcoming the regulatory shift as a faster path to operations. “Nearly 50 years after this industry took shape, it’s ready to move forward,” a company spokesman wrote in an email.
