Nintendo teases ‘Mario Galaxy’ film, new ‘Resident Evil’ during Nintendo Direct

In an hour-long Direct presentation Friday morning, Nintendo (NTDOY) made a number of key announcements about upcoming games and other media. To start off, the company showed off a teaser trailer for the next Mario movie titled “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” and announced new Mario-related games for the series’ 40th anniversar, including “Mario Tennis Fever,” “Super Mario Galaxy and Galaxy 2 HD,” “Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Switch 2 Edition,” and “Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.” Nintendo also confirmed that upcoming action-adventure title “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” will release for Switch and Switch 2 on December 4, 2025, and that action title “Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment” will be out November 5. In terms of brand-new game announcements, Nintendo unveiled tactical RPG “Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave,” out 2026, “Pokemon Pokopia,” also out 2026, and “Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream,” out Spring 2026. Other notable announcements included: a new downloadable expansion for “Donkey Kong Bananza”; a January 22, 2026 release date for Square Enix’s (SQNXF) “Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade” on Switch 2; a reveal trailer for a remake of Square Enix RPG “Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten past,” out February 5, 2026; a September 25 release date for Supergiant’s action roguelike “Hades 2”; confirmation that Capcom (CCOEY) will release “Resident Evil Requiem” on Switch 2; and a paid expansion for upcoming Pokemon game “Pokemon Legends: Z-A.”
