Tensions between OpenAI and Microsoft (MSFT) are flaring up and reaching a “boiling point” as negotiations have been so difficult in recent weeks that OpenAI’s executives have discussed what they view as a “nuclear option,” namely accusing Microsoft of anticompetitive behavior during their partnership, people familiar with the matter told The Wall Street Journal’s Berber Jin. OpenAI wants to loosen Microsoft’s grip and secure its blessing for conversion into a for-profit company, as Microsoft’s approval of the conversion is key to OpenAI’s ability to raise more money and go public, the report stated.
