Meta Platforms (META) is working on building the world’s largest data centers in Richland Parish, Louisiana, one of the poorest corners of America, Riley Griffin of Bloomberg reports. The project is being financed with one of the largest private capital deals ever and needs 10 new gas-fired turbines to keep it running. Originally, the project was meant to cost $50B, but now Meta alone plans to spend over $200B on it, a person familiar with the matter added. Investors, however, have begun showing signs of uneasiness, but if Meta does decide to leave the area, another hyperscaler could take its place.
