Merck (MRK) plans to lay off more than 100 scientific staff as it scraps its GBP 1B research center in London, The Financial Times’ Hannah Kuchler and Patrick Temple-West report. Merck will move the research activity to existing sites, mainly in the U.S., telling the FT that “Simply put, the UK is not internationally competitive.” The research center in King’s Cross was already under construction and due to open in 2027.
