Following its failed deal with Albertsons (ACI), Kroger (KR) is laying off nearly 1,000 corporate employees to trim costs and simplify its business, reported Bloomberg’s Jaewon Kang, citing a memo to staff from interim CEO Ron Sargent. “These decisions are never easy, but we know thoughtful, yet difficult, choices are necessary to set our organization up for continued success,” Sargent is quoted as having stated in the memo.
