Kraft Heinz loses hold over mac-and-cheese, American shoppers, WSJ says

Kraft Heinz (KHC) once had a strong hold over the supermarket macaroni-and-cheese aisle for decades, but now the company has lost a lot of ground, Jesse Newman of The Wall Street Journal reports. Back in 2022, the company tried releasing an upscale brand called Goodles, believing the company’s market leading product was due for an upgrade. Additionally, when Kraft and Heinz merged in 2015, it was believed the combination would breathe new life into the old brands, but now Kraft Heinz sales have dropped for eight consecutive quarters, and the company plans to split into two. Kraft Heinz is faced with a dilemma shared by other legacy food companies: mess with its flagship products and risk losing its loyal customers or stick with its formulas that don’t draw interest from younger shoppers.
