A California judge has overturned a jury’s decision ordering Johnson & Johnson to pay nearly $1B in punitive damages to the family of a woman who died from mesothelioma, a cancer they alleged was linked to the company’s talc products, Diana Novak Jones of Reuters reported. Ruth Kwan of the Los Angeles County Superior Court ruled in favor of Johnson & Johnson’s request to vacate the $950M punitive award to the family of Mae Moore, finding that the plaintiffs did not sufficiently demonstrate that the company acted with malice or concealed information it was obligated to disclose.
