Intel (INTC) spent months promising it would increase manufacturing using a process called 18A, which the company spent billions of dollars developing with the goal of challenging TSMC (TSM), Jeffrey Dastin and Max Cherney of Reuters reports. Intel has said its 18A is on track to make its semiconductors for its “Panther Lake” laptop at high volume beginning in 2025, yet only a small amount of Panther Lake chips made this way have been good enough to be made available to customers, two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters.
