The EU plans to levy a flat EUR 2 fee on billions of small packages entering the bloc, mainly from China, in a blow to PDD‘s Temu and Shein, The Financial Times’ Any Bounds reports. The handling fee has been proposed in order to offset the costs associated with the 4.6B items annually imported directly to people’s homes, according to trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic. The EUR 2 fee would apply to purchases sent to consumers, but items sent to warehouses would be taxed at EUR 0.50, the draft proposal shows.
