Google plans to build an AI data center on Australia’s remote Christmas Island after signing a cloud deal with its Department of Defense earlier in 2025, Reuters’ Kirsty Needham reports. Plans for the data center on the island located 220 miles south of Indonesia have not previously been reported, and many details including its projected size, cost and potential uses, remain secret, the report notes.
