Meta (META) and Google (GOOGL) both have plans to create subsea internet cables running through the Red Sea, but they are not yet completed as planned due to political tensions and heightened security risks, Loni Prinsloo, Riley Griffin, Jillian Deutsch, and Olivia Solon of Bloomberg reports. Meta’s 202 plans for a 45,000 km subsea cable system called 2Africa has yet to be built, with an Apple spokesperson citing a “range of operational factors, regulatory concerns, and geopolitical risk.” Meanwhile, a Google spokesperson said the Google-backed Blue-Raman cable had been delayed without providing further details.
