Sterling Anderson, who joined General Motors (GM) as Chief Product Officer in June after working for Tesla (TSLA) and co-founding the autonomous trucking company Aurora Innovation (AUR), is emerging as the front-runner to succeed Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra when she retires, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg’s David Welch. The understanding when he was hired was that if Anderson can satisfy Barra’s demand for him to bring cutting-edge software and self-driving technology to GM, he has “a good shot at succeeding her,” the sources said.
