General Motors (GM) seeks to hire back some former employees of its Cruise autonomous vehicle business in a renewed push to develop self-driving cars, David Welch of Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter. GM’s efforts this time around will focus on autonomous cars for personal use rather than a robotaxi service, sources told Bloomberg. GM first wants to develop hands-free, eyes-free driving with a human in the vehicle, with the ultimate goal being a car that can drive with no one at the wheel, the people added. Shares of General Motors are up fractionally in afternoon trading.
