GE Aerospace (GE) is making a switch to robots to ease one of aviation’s biggest bottlenecks: overloaded repair shops and scarce parts, Tim Hepher and Rajesh Kumar Singh of Reuters reports. Pressure has mounted as unexpected wear and tear in the latest generation of jet engines has led to airlines keeping older jets for longer and maintenance lines lasting months. GE Aerospace intends to lift the repair volume in Singapore by 33% without expanding the site by organizing the work, reshaping the space, and automating tasks when able.
