Game On: Analysts see Nintendo Switch 2 priced at $400 or more

“Game On” is The Fly’s weekly recap of the stories powering up or beating down video game stocks.

NEW RELEASES: This week’s most notable new video game release is Sony‘s (SONY) baseball sim “MLB The Show 25,” which launches March 18, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S (MSFT), and Nintendo Switch (NTDOY). Also out this week is Ubisoft’s (UBSFY) action role-playing game “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” which rolls out March 20 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, macOS (AAPL), and iPadOS. Meanwhile, Nintendo’s role-playing game “Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition,” a remaster of the 2015 Wii U game of the same name, launches March 20 for Nintendo Switch.

SWICH 2 PRICE: Analysts who regularly communicate with Nintendo and its software and hardware partners anticipate that the upcoming Switch 2 console, which does not have an official release date or officially announced pricing model yet, will be priced at $400 or more, Bloomberg’s Takashi Mochizuki reported late last week. U.S. tariffs could potentially complicate pricing even further and pressure the Japanese game giant’s margins, but analysts all sound confident the gaming system will get off to a good start, the author noted. “They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price,” Tokyo-based industry watcher Serkan Toto told Bloomberg. “We can expect a great software lineup in year one, from new Mario Kart and 3D Mario after eight years to Pokemon Legends: Z-A and Metroid Prime 4. There will also be third-party support from day one, most probably including blockbusters like Call of Duty.”

UBISOFT EYES INVESTORS FOR NEW ENTITY: Ubisoft is weighing bringing in investors to a new entity that will include some of its biggest video game IP, including “Assassin’s Creed,” Bloomberg’s Dong Cao, Vinicy Chan, and Benoit Berthelot (TCEHY), the authors said, noting that Ubisoft has requested that preliminary offers be made as soon as this month.

ROBLOX: Roblox (RBLX) EO Dave Baszucki told BBC News last week that if parents are “not comfortable” with their children playing on the company’s platform, “don’t let your kids be on Roblox.” The site, which is popular among young gamers aged eight to 12, has been dogged by claims of some children being exposed to explicit or harmful content through its games, alongside multiple reported allegations of bullying and grooming. Baszucki, who said that “tens of millions” of kids have positive experiences on Roblx, remains confident in Roblox’s safety tools and insists the firm goes above and beyond to keep its users safe. “We watch for bullying, we watch for harassment, we filter all of those kinds of things, and I would say behind the scenes, the analysis goes on all the way to, if necessary, reaching out to law enforcement,” he told BBC News.

A few days later, Capitol Forum’s Ethan Ehrenhaft (EA) “Split Fiction” has sold over 2M units in its first week of availability
