French prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into X, the platform formerly called Twitter (TWTR), over allegations that the company manipulated its algorithms for the purposes of “foreign interference,” Politico reports. Prosecutors are looking into whether the social media company broke French law by altering its algorithms and fraudulently extracting data from users. Publicly traded companies in the social media space that compete with X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, include Meta Platforms (META), Alphabet (GOOG) (GOOGL), Pinterest (PINS), Reddit (RDDT) and Snap (SNAP).
