ExxonMobil (XOM) has defeated an attempt by Occidental Petroleum (OXY) to contest its production rights at one of the largest lithium deposits in the U.S., Jamie Smyth of The Financial Times reports. The regulatory battle in Arkansas comes as the Trump administration pushes to boost domestic extraction and processing of critical minerals. Saltwerx, an Exxon subsidiary, was given the right to establish a 56,0000-acre lithium production unit by regulators despite objections made by Occidental.
