In addition to tariffs, European and Asian carmakers are facing steeper costs when shipping vehicles to the U.S. amid Washington’s new port fee policy, The Financial Times’ Kana Inagaki, Peter Foster, and Chan Ho-him report. Car carrier operators will have to pay $150 for every vehicle they have capacity to carry into the U.S. from October, or about $1.8B a year of additional fees for the car carrier sector, according to Clarksons Research. European carmakers include Mercedes-Benz (MBGYY), BMW (BMWYY), Volkswagen (VWAGY), Audi (AUDVF), and Renault (RNSDF), while Asian carmakers include Toyota (TM), Honda (HMC), Nissan (NSANY), and Hyundai (HYMTF).
