The European Commission wants to decide if Amazon’s (AMZN) AWS, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Azure, or Google Cloud (GOOGL) should face new restrictions under the Digital Markets Act after several major cloud outages, Bloomberg’s Samuel Stolton reports. The EU plans to study the market power of the top cloud operators to decide if they should be subject to increased interoperability and data portability requirements, which could lead to significant penalties if the cloud services are found to be in violation of the rules, with fines similar to those faced by Apple (AAPL) and Meta (META), Stolton writes.
