The European Commission is preparing a new investigation into Alphabet (GOOGL) (GOOG) over how it ranks news outlets in its search results, The Financial Times’ Barbara Moens reports. According to two officials cited by the publication, the probe, which would fall under the Digital Markets Act, will examine allegations that Google demoted publishers featuring “third-party” promotional or sponsored content. The timing of the announcement is still fluid, but it could come as soon as Thursday, according to the report.
