EU may alter methane rules for US gas to help with trade talks, Reuters says

The European Union, EU, is looking to make it easier for U.S. gas exports to comply with its methane emission rules, as it attempts to avoid a trade war with U.S. President Donald Trump, Kate Abnett and Valerie Volcovici of Reuters reports, citing three sources familiar with the matter. Trump has said several times the EU should buy more American oil and gas to lower its trade surplus with the United States, to which European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has responded that the EU could increase U.S. LNG purchases as it seeks to quit Russian gas by 2027. Companies in the space include Cheniere Energy (LNG), Chevron (CVX), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Shell (SHEL), and TotalEnergies (TTE).
