DOE’s Coe says U.S. to own as many as 10 nuclear reactors, Bloomberg reports

Carl Coe, the Department of Energy chief of staff, provided more details of a non-binding commitment made by Japan in October to fund $550B in U.S. projects, including as much as $80B for the construction of new reactors made by Westinghouse Electric. Coe noted that the U.S. government plans to buy and own as many as 10 large nuclear reactors, which could be paid for with the money pledged by Japan, reported Bloomberg’s Ari Natter and Will Wade. Coe is quoted by Bloomberg as having said at an energy conference hosted by the Tennessee Advanced Energy Business Council that “the role of having the government involved in private markets is sacrosanct – you just don’t do it. But this is a national emergency.” Publicly traded companies in the nuclear energy space include Oklo (OKLO), Nuscale Power (SMR), Nano Nuclear Energy (NNE), Constellation Energy (CEG), BWX Technologies (BWXT), Centrus Energy (LEU), Amentum (AMTM) and Cameco (CCJ).
