In the opening hour of the evening session, U.S. equity futures are mixed to negative – S&P 500 is down 0.1%, Nasdaq 100 is off by 0.2%, and Dow Industrials is flat. In commodities, WTI Crude Oil is little changed following Monday’s sharp 2% decline on the announcement that OPEC+ intends to goose up production. In metals, Gold has erased nearly all of last week’s decline, returning back above $3,340 per ounce level.
On Monday, stocks ended a streak of nine consecutive gaining sessions with modest declines. Energy was the biggest declining sector amid lower oil prices, followed Consumer Discretionary and Tech. Within the S&P 500, Apple and one of its largest shareholders – Berkshire Hathaway – were both down notably following the announcement that Warren Buffett will be handing over the reins at the end of the year.
In earnings, Palantir was a standout decliner, shedding 9% despite a top-line beat and FY25 revenue outlook raise. The stock was the best performer on the S&P500 year-to-date and had briefly exceeded its all-time high from February during Monday’s session prior to its afterhours pullback. Ford was also down slightly despite a Q1 beat as the company quantified its estimated gross impact to total adjusted EBIT from tariffs to at a whopping $2.5B.
