Citi (C)group hired Robert Lighthizer, President Donald Trump’s former trade chief, as a senior adviser on global trade, The Wall Street Journal’s Alexander Saeedy reports. Lighthizer, who privately disagreed with Trump’s 2019 tariff threat on Mexico, believes the international trading system has failed the U.S. and that trade deficits need correcting. He began working as a senior adviser to Citigroup earlier this year and has already traveled to several countries to meet with the global bank’s clients, people familiar with the matter say.
