ChatGPT’s mobile app, made by Microsoft (MSFT)-backed OpenAI, has achieved $2B in global consumer spending since its May 2023 release, TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez reports, citing app intelligence provider Appfigures. That $2B number is roughly 30x the combined lifetime spending of ChatGPT’s competitors on mobile devices, the author notes. So far in 2025, the app has generated $1.35B, a 673% year-over-year increase from the $174M it earned during the same period in 2024, the author says.
