Carmakers sharing consumers’ driving behavior with insurance companies, NYT says

Automakers including GM (GM), Honda (HMC), Kia (KIMTF), and Hyundai (HYMTF) are collecting driving data from internet-connected vehicles and sharing it with insurance companies without clear consent, The New York Times’ Kashmir Hill reports. LexisNexis, which generates consumer risk profiles for the insurers, knew about every trip GM drivers had taken in their cars, including when they sped, braked too hard or accelerated rapidly, Hill writes, adding that some drivers may not realize that their driving data is being shared with insurance companies.
