The California State Senate has invited two significant former CBS higher-ups to testify in a new probe into whether Paramount (PARAA) (PARA), the network’s parent company, has broken state laws against bribery and unfair competition, Semafor’s Max Tani reports. Paramount offered President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign $15M to resolve a lawsuit filed against the network over a lightly edited “60 Minutes” interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris last year, the author notes. In a new letter, Josh Becker, chairman of the state senate’s Energy, Utilities & Communications Committee, and Judiciary Committee chair Thomas Umberg invited former “60 Minutes” producer Bill Owens and former CBS News president Wendy McMahon to testify in an upcoming hearing on the proposed settlement, the author says.
