BorgWarner (BWA) has secured a new contract with a major Chinese original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, for its electric motors. The awarded motor features a platform-based design, compatible across a full range of NEV applications, including battery electric and hybrid models. It also incorporates BorgWarner’s ultra-short hairpin welding process, which reduces end-turn height for a more compact structure and significantly improves space utilization. In early 2025, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Wuhu municipal government to establish a new manufacturing base for electric drive systems. Additionally, BorgWarner has secured contracts with two major, global original equipment manufacturers to supply high-voltage coolant heater technology for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle platforms. One of the wins marks BorgWarner’s first eHeater for a hybrid program with the respective legacy automaker, expanding its existing business. The 400V technology is planned to be used across the OEMs’ PHEV platforms, with production expected to begin in 2028. Additionally, a second 800V HVCH contract with a different global OEM builds on BorgWarner’s long-standing partnership with the company, expanding the technology’s integration into several light PHEV platforms, including a pick-up truck, with start of production also slated for 2028.
