In filing with the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, Boeing (BA) has asked the regulatory to temporarily exempt its 777 freighter from an international rule on greenhouse gas emissions set to take effect in 2027, Julie Johnsson of Bloomberg reports, citing a shortage of widebody cargo jets. Additionally, Boeing asked for approval to make 35 more of its 777 freighter models beginning in 2028 until a newer model enters the market. The issue is the jet’s engines do not comply with the standards set by International Civil Aviation Organization.
